Need Quiet Time to Study?

Do you find that you are often interrupted by friends, siblings, noisy neighbors, or even pets when you are trying to study and focus on schoolwork? Here's a suggestion shared by senior students at TOPS to help: try waking up earlier in the morning. Seniors at TOPS are saying that waking up early gives them a chance to get a head start on the day. By starting their schoolwork around 7 am, they have time to plan their day, work on assignments, and email teachers for 1:1 sessions if they need help. They said the mornings give them quiet, distraction-free work time that helps them get a lot more done and it frees up the rest of the day to attend live CC, have jobs, or even participate in hobbies or extracurricular activities.

Are you interested in trying to wake up earlier, but don't know where to start? Experts say that just gradually waking up 15 min earlier each day until you reach your goal wake up time can help you slowly adjust to your new schedule. Also, it can be very beneficial to try getting a little exercise and some sunlight right after waking up to help you shift out of sleep mode.

Remember, the key is to start slow and according to our seniors, eventually the benefits of having a quiet, distraction free work time will be well worth the effort of waking up just a little earlier every day.
